I mean actual gamecube controls bought five years ago, not the gamecube style controls made specifically for the Wii.

yes just plug it in the top of the wii and get going.
if you want, the controller bottons are different from the older mario kart(mario kart:double dash!!) now the L button is for manual shift steering, R botton is now for items only, A is for accelerate, B for backing up and the gray arrows on the bottom right is for the stylish thing when you get off a bump of a boost bump.(or when using a bike up botton on the gray pad is for a little but more speed but harder to steer to stop it press the L button for 1 sec.) 3-2-1 GOOD LUCK! (for more easier info just read the instruction manual.)
yea, if you look on the back of the game (at the top right) it will show different controllers, if it shows a game cube controller use it because you can. or you could look at the instructions. but yes. it does work on mario cart
