Amazon.co.uk Review
The Game Boy Advance features power that would have been unthinkable back when the original Game Boy was launched. Its 32-bit RISC CPU runs circles around the former machine’s 8-bit workhorse, allowing it to process program instructions much faster. What that means to everyday gamers is more intricate visuals, more simultaneous movement on the screen, and better sound. In fact, the often-annoying bleeps and bloops of old-school Game Boy titles are being replaced with digitised stereo sound. When you first pick up the system, you’ll notice how lightweight it is. It’s a little less than 150 grams, but a little larger than a deck of playing cards. The GBA’s wider shape fits better into a wider range of hands, and … More >>

GBA is one awesome system-graphics that are BETTER than SNES, with the now-common L and R buttons, all in one handheld package.
It plays ALL game boy games, so don’t let the size of the new ones fool you. The new games are about half the size of the old ones, but the old ones just stick out at the top-especially the bigger ones like Pokemon Pinball and Game Boy Camera.
The screen is wider, providin longer gameplay scenes. In fact, even 3D is possible on this system-handheld 3D! What, don’t believe me? Look at two 3D games we’ve got-Pinobee: Wings of Adventure and the ever-popular Tony Hawk’s pro Skater 2.
In the multiplayer category, this new unit will allow for 4-player hookups on some games, like Super Mario Advance and the upcoming Mario Kart Advance. Unfortunately, the old infrared port is gone, so you Pokemon Gold & Silver fans will need to dust off your GBC if you want Mystery Gift.
The sound is also better, and improved battery life(at least I think) make this a must-have for any Nintendo fan. In fact, once Nintendo Gamecube comes out, you can even use your GBA as an additional screen and controller! There are also theories you can download Gamecube games onto your GBA and upload them into other Gamecubes, which can save a few people big bucks.
I will wrap up with this-GBA is well worth… If you don’t get it, you might end up in the virtual dust.

So portable, so cute. The games I’ve played so far have been good – Tony Hawks looks amazing. Its like having a small SNES in your hand. Battery life’s good as the power is not used on back lighting. But this in itself causes the only real problem with this handheld – the lack of back lighting means that you have to hold the GBA under a light source at an angle to see the screen clearly.
Other than that, if you like games on the move its a “no brainer”, nothing comes close.

Has much more of a proper console feel to it than any other handheld so far. It’s actually like a lower resolution playstation. I bought F-Zero which is nice, but nothing new. GT Advance however, is excellent with smooth fast scrolling 3D. The game linkup on F-Zero works very well and adds much to the gameplay.
Ergonomically, it’s very easy to hold for long periods and has a nice solid, yet light build.
The one downside is lack of backlight. I bought mine with the ‘Wild Things’ screen lens/lamp thrown in free (Virgin Megastore). However, I’ve never encountered such a pointless device – it does absolutely nothing to help you see your screen!
I don’t think many people will be disappointed, as everyone who I’ve let have a go wants one now.

I’d like to point out the reason why there is no backlight. Nintendo considered it, but decided against it, because of this: The GBA runs for 15 hours on two standard AA batteries. If it had a backlight, it would only run for 2-3 hours max, on four AA batteries, substantually adding to weight, size and cost. The facts speak for themselves. Secondly, the screen is perfectly visable in a well lit room, and if it causes that much trouble, then a lamp can be bought. My standard Nintendo lamp for the origonal Game Boy lasted me for 7 years, and I assume Nintendo would deliver their same standard of quality with the GBA.

There is only one way to describe how great the Game Boy Advance is gonna be: AMAZING!!! Try to imagine walking down the street holding a handheld consol with the same amount of attributes as a Playstation AND playing the same amazing games you play on your N64! Wow! This is going to be great. Go out and pre-order one for yourself now!
