Developed by Sega’s renowned AM2 team, Outtrigger is an action game that can be played in either the first or third person. However, it clearly plays like a first-person shooter. The sparse story has you serving as a member of an anti-terrorist group. The game’s high-quality graphics run at a peppy 60 frames per second…. More >>

  1. When I first started playing outtrigger after buying it for my dreamcast I didn’t think it was too good. But as the missions went on it got better and better. It is set out into missions where you have to kill so many terrorists in a certain time limit before they kill you, and other missions are set out in a quake 3 style arena where you have to get more frag points than your oponents before they get too many, oh and all this is in about 2 minutes! It is set into 45 missions.Novice, Intermediate and advanced. I have nearly finished the novice missions now and have only had it for about a week. It is quite hard in some missions but harder in some missions.

Outtrigger is one of the best games I have ever bought on the DC. It truly shows that while we can all boast about the nice graphics and great features of our PS2 machines, the Dreamcast actually still has substance to it.

The game is basically a shoot-em-up, but with perfect graphics and really smooth play. The missions could have been more rounded, with set objctives being harder etc., but this is lost when you get two or more players fragging each other with missiles, flame throwers, pistols, grenades and other goodies!

The Dreamcast is alive! This game is really one to buy, play, and show off to others. It’s a shame Sega have written off this machine before its time, but what a way to go!!!

Afetr reading all the hype and waiting eagerly for its release it has to be said that Outtrigger was a HUGH dissapointment. After a very short time I became aware of some problems with this game, it was not Confidential Mission, not even a close friend nor was it a distant relation to Hidden & Dangerous or Rainbow Six. What it was was a Pile of Pony. All you do is run around the same pointless restricting levels with Guns and Bombs and kill your opponents, fun you may think, its worked before, very true but this game is pants. There was no skill involved whatsoever if you managed to kill someone it was more by luck than judgment most of the time. The graphics were ok but nothing thats not been seen before. If you can manage to play this game for more than an hour before you throw it out the window I will be very suprised. I think I would rather play with a live Cobra than go anywhere near this game again. All I can say if your like me then this game will be a massive dissapointment, dont be conned by the hype like I was!

  4. This is good while it lasts, but the severe lack on any multi-player modes sucks eggs big time, where are the capture the flag, etc. modes??? Yes the courses are small but they could have come up with something except teams or no teams, ooohhhh…. thrilling. Saying this the game is a good blast, it looks very nice, it’s easy to get into, choosing your own weapons to take with you is a nice touch too. Worth buying? Definitely. Could be better? Definitely.

At a time where new quality Dreamcast titles are becoming fewer and further between, Outtrigger by Japanese gaming giants Am2 breaths new life into a Quake III dominated genre. A First-Person perspective shooter that has great single player modes is a rare thing, and Outtrigger pulls it off nicely.

Your role: A highly trained member of a top secret international anti-terrorist force. Your mission, should you accept it, is to KILL EVERYTHING THAT MOVES, er….apart from the innocent civilians that pop up every now and then. Outtrigger features some of the best looking graphics I have seen on the Dreamcast, with cool weapon effects, varied playing arenas and a 60 frames-per-second frame rate giving that smooth, arcade quality look to the proceedings.

A nice original touch is the option of having a first or third-person perspective viewpoint, the latter providing a useful, more encompassing view of things. The learning curve of the single player missions is forgivingly gentle to begin with, as you are just required to collect the odd token here and there. But don’t worry, it won’t be long before you are atomizing your enemies with a well placed rocket or two mwa..ha…haaaaa…

The multiplayer mode works well, and the graphical sacrifices are minimal, even with four players on screen at once. This is just as well, because like so many European Dreamcast releases, the ability to play against others online has been left out of the UK version of the game. A shame, but at least our phone bills won’t be quite so big now…

The big question is, should you buy this game if you are already a fan of Quake III: Arena or Unreal Tournament? Probably. However, if you are new to First-Person Shooters, and enjoy frantic action, intuitive gameplay and excellent graphics, should you buy this game? Definitely!
