Nintendo has been known for always being the new company to bring out never before seen consoles, in this case handhelds. They were the first to bring out a motion sensing console, the first company to actually get into the gaming world, the first company to have handhelds and the first company to have touch screen gaming.
The handhelds started out with the Gameboy Pocket, a small, black and white, 8byte gaming device. At the time it was amazing. They thought they could do better, and they did…Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advanced, Gameboy SP, Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, and now the Nintendo 3Ds.
The Nintendo 3Ds looks stunning, but is it the same as all the other Nintendo *blah*? Well that’s what we want to find out. Nintendo really kicked things of when the first DS was released, and since then they’ve always been trying to make something better, but stick with the exact same design.
Now they’re are a lot of things to be said about the 3Ds, but we can’t say a lot because Nintendo did not say, a lot at the conference. The stuff we know can lead onto the real things. So let’s get started.
First thing that we know is that the 3Ds console will have a 2GB SD card, and should be able to hold up to 32GB. At least we can change the SD card on thus handheld as Nintendo have always ‘restricted’ it.
The handheld will also have a “Virtual Console”. We don’t quite know what it means but we do know that it will be able to play all the Gameboy games, and the Gameboy Advanced games.
Another really neat thing is that it will be able to connect to wi-fi, so you can browse the net, and still stay connected while it’s turned off, this will allow it to fetch data.
Then they’ll be the ‘multiplayer’ mode. Only on the 3Ds it will be called tag mode. It will allow players to share scores or accept game requests like football matches or fights. We don’t know whether both the players need the game card, or if it’s got the download feature.
And now there’s a thing called the Mii features. Kind of like the Nintendo Wii, but with this one you can take pictures of your self and customize it with clothes and stuff. It will be used for online gaming modes, which promises to be amazing.
Last thing, and the best thing. You may have already guessed it by the name 3Ds, but this new handheld will be completely available to play in 3D! It will include a pair of glasses which will allow you to play in 3D. The games will have two modes, normal and 3D.
Now the name 3Ds is for two reasons. One for it being in 3D, and two forbid being the third Nintendo DS.
One more thing…the system will have a fantastic dashboard, main menu, which will have loads of features, it will literally blow you away. Unfortunately we don’t know what they are as Nintendo has kept it a secret.
It will be released in Japan in February, so we can expect it to be released somewhere in March at a value of $150+
So conclusion…handheld revolution.
